5a-Hydroxy laxogenin, also known as 5 alpha hydroxy Laxogenin or 5a hydroxy Laxogenin, is known as a plant steroid because it is derived from sarsaparilla, which contains brassinosteroids. The underground stems of the Asian plant Sarsaparilla contain approximately 0.06% of lasogenin, which is its main natural source. 5a-Hydroxy laxogenin, also extracted from the bulbs of Chinese onions (genus Allium), is a plant compound that is the best-known member of a group of compounds collectively known as brassinosteroids, similar to cholesterol-derived human sex hormones. Rapeseed steroids have anabolic effects and can enhance a person's physical performance in a variety of ways. However, as a unique plant-derived compound, 5a-Hydroxy laxogenin can affect different pathways in the body. In addition, natural 5a-Hydroxy laxogenin derivatives block the enzyme that breaks down cAMP (phosphodiesterase). This increases cAMP levels, enhances lipolysis, and activates the fight-or-flight (sympathetic) response.
